United Airlines launches Dreamliner in Australian Market

United Airlines is set to launch its first direct service between Melbourne and Los Angeles commencing October 28, 2014, with the sophisticated new 787-9 Dreamliner.

United Airlines is set to launch its first direct service between Melbourne and Los Angeles commencing October 28, 2014, with the sophisticated new 787-9 Dreamliner.

This is will be United’s first international deployment of the aircraft and will deliver United customers with unprecedented operating efficiency, comfort andamenities such as lower cabin altitude and enhanced ventilation systems.

“We are excited about using the newest version of the game-changing Dreamliner, the 787-9, to provide non-stop trans-Pacific service from Melbourne for the first time,” said Jim Compton, United’s vice chairman and chief revenue officer.

The new service will offer Melbourne customers seamless connectivity to Los Angeles and beyond. In addition to this, Sydney customers will also benefit from the introduction as United plans to amend schedules to enable faster connections through hubs throughout the America’s.

“This new service will benefit all our customers in Australia. Our Melbourne customers will enjoy faster journeys to Los Angeles and beyond, as well as improved inflight comfort and amenities.”

“At the same time we will seek to make changes to our Sydney schedule which will enable faster connections via our San Francisco and Los Angeles hubs to destinations throughout the Americas.”

Initially operating as a six-times-weekly service, United announced earlier this year that they increase the service to daily from March 12, 2015. It will provide a total capacity of 252 seats on the route and three class configuration including United BusinessFirst which offers a superior service, lie-flat beds and on Demand entertainment system to all passengers.

This is yet another milestone in what has already been a massive year for United, launching its Boeing 777 on their Sydney to Los Angeles and San Francisco routes earlier this year. Introducing such a superior product continues to demonstrate United’s commitment to the Australian market, which they have been serving for the last 28 years.
