#KOExtraMile: Flash mob proposal

What’s a more memorable customer service experience than helping a man propose in the most epic way possible? Changi Airport goes the #KOExtraMile for love.

What’s a more memorable customer service experience than helping a man propose in the most epic way possible? Changi Airport goes the #KOExtraMile for love.

On Dec 11, 2014, Changi Airport helped Mr John Koo to propose to Ms Melissa Chan in a move that raises the bar for all men. Mr John Khoo, the founder of two singing groups, turned Changi Airport’s departure hall into his own musical stage with a large singing flash mob.

Ms Melissa Chan was given the lyrics to a love song played over a few speakers at Changi Airport and, soon, several people were dancing to Happy Together outside the cafe she was in.

Customers and staff at the Terminal 1 Café started whipping out their smartphones, but Ms Chan didn’t have a clue that this was all for her.

A couple of singers then walked with her to an area at Terminal 1’s departure hall, where a group of about 100 people, including Mr Khoo broke out into a song and dance number. Even Max, Changi Airport’s mascot joined in on the fun.

After one more song, Mr Khoo got down on bended knee and popped the question and the crowd went wild when he announced: “She said ‘yes’.”

“I thought it’d be fun, and I would also be able to invite my friends and students, who are part of my life,” he said.

Proposing at the airport would be a good way to start their holiday, he added. They were going to Bangkok and Taipei.

“She wanted something personal and quiet, but I hoped to make it more memorable for her.”
