FAKENEWS: The best of 'April fool's day 2018' in the world of travel

Even though April fool's day fell on Easter Sunday this year, that didn't stop creative marketing gagsters everywhere playing up with some classic Tomfoolery to try and catch us all out.

Even though April fool’s day fell on Easter Sunday this year, that didn’t stop creative marketing gagsters everywhere playing up with some classic Tomfoolery to try and catch us all out.

I love April fool’s day.

For me it’s the one day of the year where companies truly get creative, actually ‘think out of the box’ for a change and come up with crazy ideas that often end up appearing not that crazy at all.

In fact, often you’ll see people saying “That a great idea, why don’t you just do it?”. Which let’s face it is the true power of creativity and unhinged thinking anyway.

So despite a double whammy of ‘the day of jokes’ falling on Easter Sunday and a non work day, this year was no exception and many brands still got creative and rolled out some zany ideas anyway.

Here’s my wrap of the best gags in travel.

1. THE EMIRATES ‘SKYLOUNGE’

Regular gagsters to the April fool’s scene, Emirates this year blended the ‘WOW’ factor with wording up a new aircraft in a stroke of PR genius.

Look at the response we had to it on our Facebook page!

Nicely played Emirates.

2. INFINITY HOLIDAYS FOR PETS

An absolutely ‘not so crazy’ idea and one that resonated well with pet lovers everywhere.

Simple, effective and do-able.

Infinity are already taking bookings. (JOKES)

3. VIRGIN MILE HIGH SPIN

Does the idea of a spinning class at 35,000 feet sound good to you? Or just plain sweaty?

Some lovers, some haters here… But top marks for creativity and production.

Love the commitment to creating a quality April fool.

4. JETSTAR’S NIGHTCLUB IN THE AIR

Disclaimer: We made this one up ourselves. But it would be interesting that’s for sure.

This is actually the air-con system meeting the humid air outside the cabin and is a regular occurrence on this aircraft.

Unlike the nightclub will be.

5. HONG KONG AIRLINES CHOOSE THE DUCK

Sometimes, an idea can be too close to the bone (Ho ho).

This one made me laugh because so many people were taken by it, asking “When is this happening?”

And were then outraged to find out it was in fact, only a joke.

Oh the backlash.

6. THE CARNIVAL COMMUTE

Commuting through Sydney Harbour twice day on the Manly ferry can be a bit of a bore at times.

So Carnival decide to spice things up a little and introduce their ship, the Carnival Spirit to ferry commuters in style to and from Circular Quay.

With this idea, commuters could take on the Green Thunder or just laze around sipping lattes on the twenty minute cruise to the office.

They even created their own timetable to add to the joke. Brilliant.

AND LASTLY… JOHN IS KEY…

No-one knows where this one actually came from, certainly not from Air New Zealand anyway. Or was it Air NZ?

Found on Facebook…

Apparently Air New Zealand have just bought a new Airbus A380 that will feature the former Prime-minister on the tail as well as be named the ‘John Key’.

Did you see any fun April fool’s? Tell us!
