For the singles who haven’t yet been shot by Cupid’s arrow of love, treat yourself this Valentine’s to one of LATAM’s low-season sale tickets and discover the most romantic cities of Latin America. You’ll fall in love at first sight. Cusco, Peru Winding cobblestone streets? Check. Terracotta-tile sprawl? Check. Boutique shops, bars and restaurants? Check! This charming city nestled among the Peruvian Andes puts the R into romance. As the former capital of the powerful Inca Empire that ruled most of the area before European colonisation, Cusco boasts archaeological remains and impressive Spanish colonial architecture that makes visitors feel as if they have travelled back in time. The Plaza de Armas of the old city is bustling with locals and tourists alike, whom use the main square as a meeting point before making way to a local bar for the perfect Pisco Sour and onwards to dine over one of Peru’s many scrumptious dishes. Los Cabos, Mexico Los Cabos is a magic and romantic land full of contrasts that will charm your pants off! The area, which is known as “Lands End” for being located at the tip of the southern Baja California Peninsula, showcases amazing natural beauties – from breathtaking vistas of the sea, to arid desert and dramatic mountains. Enjoy luminescent pink, purple and orange sunsets at the beach. Walk around the old Mexican town of San Jose del Cabo. Enjoy tasty Mexican cuisine in any of the region’s great restaurants, or savour the unique flavour of mescal and locally brewed beer with locals and foreigners who have made Drift San José their favourite local hang. Cartagena, Colombia Along Colombia’s northern coast you’ll find the Queen of the Caribbean, Cartagena. The Old Town, which was founded in the 16th century, is encircled by towering walls and forts built by the Spanish. Inside you’ll find perfectly-preserved and colourful colonial structures, city squares and cobblestone streets. Enjoy Cartagena’s year-round warm tropical climate, which makes it one of South America’s preferred beach destinations. Outside of the city and reachable by boat are Isla de Barú, with gorgeous white-sand beaches and palm trees, and the Islas del Rosario, known for their coral reefs and amazing biodiversity and beauty. Paraty, Brasil Paraty is a traditional town backed by mountains on Brazil’s Costa Verde, between the buzzling cities of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Its Portuguese colonial centre has beautiful cobbled streets as well as 17th- and 18th-century buildings dating to its time as a port, during the Brazilian Gold Rush when the town become prominent in the area for its location. The pedestrian-only Old Town is bursting with creative energies and is home to many of Brazil’s most important contemporary artists. Moreover, a bounty of restaurants, bars and cachaça tasting rooms make for a great night out.
