Summer is upon us and ice-cream enthusiasts are ready to enjoy their favourite ice creams, gelatos and sorbets.

Whilst many of us prefer the classic flavours such as vanilla, strawberry, chocolate matched with salted caramel and exotic fruit to shake things up – you might be surprised to find out that there’s a savoury ice cream repertoire out there which will blow your (mind?) taste buds away.

So where do you go to experience these unusual ice cream flavours?

1.Spaghetti and Cheese Ice Cream by Heladeria Coromoto, Venezuela

It’s cheese flavored with pieces of spaghetti. There’s no pasta sauce in the mix, but feel free to drizzle it on at your own risk.

 

2.Cicada Flavored Ice Cream by Sparky’s Homemade Ice Cream, Columbia

Apparently these bugs are said to taste like peanuts and are coated in brown sugar and milk chocolate, then mixed with vanilla ice cream. The cicadas’ wings are used as a finishing garnish.

 

3. Honey Jalapeño Pickle Ice Cream From Sweet Action Ice Cream, Denver, US

To get the right pickle for this surprisingly refreshing flavor, the team at Sweet Action Ice Cream teamed up with local pickle company, The Real Dill.

They chop up those cukes and add Colorado honey, and then they throw in some spicy bits of fresh jalapeño.

 

4.Oyster Ice Cream by Namja Town, Japan

Namja Town, an indoor amusement park in Japan’s Ikebukuro district sells dozens of peculiar savoury scoops, including beef tongue, shark fin and miso-ramen.

But the oyster ice cream is supposed to be particularily pungent because of the actual oyster chunks mixed into the cream.

 

5. Goat Cheese Cashew Caramel From Black Dog Gelato, Chicago, US

Made with tangy goat cheese, salted cashews and stripes of homemade caramel, this flavor of ice cream tastes kind of like cheesecake and has garnered quite the fan club. 

 

6.Curry Flavored Ice Cream by Vosges Chocolates, India

This curry ice cream is featured as one of their “exotic” flavors and is said to be sweet with hints of coconut.

 

7. Basil Avocado Ice Cream From SoBou, New Orleans, US

Chef Juan Carlos Gonzalez, who serves it as a refreshing appetizer, created this savory and sweet menu item that, in sticky Southern heat, is a good way to fill up and cool down.

The UK’s Fredericks Dairies has rolled out a fish and chip–flavored ice cream. The company says the ice cream “will be a taste of the British seaside in a lick.”

Vanilla and pepper batter surrounds “creamed cod fillet ice cream.” Paired with , yes you guessed it – potato ice cream chips!
