Insightful map reveals what different countries are the best at

Because every country is the best at something – that's the tagline of a new map that sheds light on what each country around the world is actually good at. No stereotypes, no hearsay, just pure facts.

Because every country is the best at something – that’s the tagline of a new map that sheds light on what each country around the world is actually good at. No stereotypes, no hearsay, just pure facts.

The map, titled ‘International Number Ones,’ is based on actual statistics from credible sources, such as the World Bank, UN, and the CIA World Factbook, and was put together by data journalist and information designer, David McCandless.

It took three weeks to produce, and reveals at once what countries around the world are the best at.

So what are we actually good at here in Australia?

Well it turns out we’re not the biggest alcohol consumers in the world (that accolade belongs to Belarus) nor the biggest copper exporter (that title belongs to Chile).

What we actually excel at are cyber security breaches. Yep, you’re going to want to change your password often down under, as your information (emails, social media, etc) isn’t as safe here than in other countries.

Speaking of social media, Canada is a country of Facebook addicts – they just can’t stop scrolling their feeds up there – whilst Estonia are leaders in startups (they’re excellent at putting on Christmas markets too).

Oh, and just in case you’re wondering, Israel excels at medical research, Malaysia is the best at producing rubber gloves, and Papua New Guinea flaunts diversity like no other nation on the planet.

If you’re looking for the fastest Wi-Fi on the planet, you’ll need to head to Eastern Europe – specifically, Lithuania. And scrabble lovers should head to Nigeria of all places if they want to play with the best players in the world – or so the map reveals.

Now, although you’d think Italy would come out on top in coffee consumption or fashion or eating pasta, they actually are great at growing Kiwi fruit. Whilst actual Kiwis in New Zealand are the kings and queens at producing the most Chinook Salmon.

And here’s a surprising one guys: Pakistan, it turns out, is the world’s biggest consumer of gay pornography – who would’ve thought?! Whilst its brothers in India consume more bananas than anywhere else in the world.

Getting serious for a moment, there are actually some sad findings that came out of the research. For example, Honduras leads the world in murders, Swaziland in HIV, Angola in child mortality, and underweight children in Ethiopia.

China also jails the most journalists in the world, Namibia has the most car crashes, and Niger the most child brides.
