Is the Fly-Tot the secret weapon for long-haul flights with kids?

An inflatable cushion that allows your kids to lie down flat on a regular economy seat may just spell the end of uncomfortable flights and sleepless nights for your kids on long-haul services.

A family holiday from Auckland to Dubai onboard Emirates’ world-recording breaking 17 hour and 15 minute flight?

No worries at all with the Fly-Tot!

The brainchild of two California mums, Kate and Winnie, the Fly-Tot inflates and moulds itself within the space between your seat and the seat in front to give your kids a fully-flat bed experience in Economy Class, making travelling by air with children a more comfortable and stress-free experience – for everyone onboard.

The nifty sleeping aid is currently receiving lots of praise around the world, including renowned travel publication Conde Nast Traveler and popular lifestyle blog Mamamia.

Speaking to Mamamia, the inventors of Fly-Tot came up with the idea after travelling on many long-haul flights across the Pacific Ocean:

“While many infants and toddlers can sleep peacefully on long flights, my girls could never sleep more than a couple of hours at a time. And, since the girls wouldn’t always sleep at the same time, I got virtually no rest on these cross-Pacific flights.”

Made of highly durable material, Fly-Tot inflates itself in less than three minutes flat, and once inflated, doesn’t prevent the passenger in front reclining their seat. Then, when it’s time to land (always the best part of any flight), the Fly-Tot deflates in just a few seconds.

Score!

According to the inventors, Fly-Tot can be used in a couple of different ways, depending on whether you have one kid or two.

Parents travelling with one child can inflate a single Fly-Tot in the space between seats, which will allow the child to lie completely flat, but with their legs slightly bent. Of course, smaller children may be able to stretch out completely.

Parents with two children can use two Fly-Tots side by side, which will allow their kids to sleep with their legs stretched out.

Currently, the Fly-Tot hasn’t received any support from the airlines, but mums around Australia, and indeed around the world, are throwing their support behind what is basically the kid equivalent of a cool neck pillow, only much more likely to lead to actual sleep!

The Original Fly-Tot – Version 2.0 – retails at $120 and can be ordered online here.
