Fancy a dose of Mexico with a Californian twist? Then Los Cabos is the destination for you.

Located at the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja Peninsula, the cluster of beach towns collectively known as Los Cabos offers way more than the clichéd tacos and tequila shots.

Cabo San Lucas serves up vibrant California chic from its luxury hotels and golf courses to its shopping boutiques. Meanwhile, San Jose del Cabo has more of an authentic Mexican feel with a laidback artsy vibe.

But venture away from the resort towns and you’ll find a rich and diverse wildlife, striking beaches and abundant adventures.

No surprises then that it’s beloved by celebrities in the know. Our very own Aussie Nicole Kidman was spotted there just earlier this month. Jennifer Aniston and George Clooney have also been seen around town.

If that’s not motivation enough to get packing, then check out these five reasons why you need a Los Cabos adventure in your life:

1. It’s not as far as you think

You are probably already well aware that the City of Angels AKA Los Angeles is a 14-hour hop across the Pacific. But did you know a mere two hours flight from LAX will have you living it large in Los Cabos? That makes it the perfect add-on to your US itinerary.

2. It’s alive with adventure

Love the water? Then you’ll be wowed by the diversity to be found beneath the waves. We’re talking sea lions, sea horses, turtles and even whales. Then there are the spectacular sandfalls that cascade down an underwater canyon discovered by famous explorer Jacques Cousteau – a true playground for divers.

Above ground, you can explore desert landscapes with an ATV or head up into the jungle canopies on a zip-line.

3. The nights are pretty wild

Although your days may be action-packed, make sure you save some energy for the night-time antics for which Los Cabos is known.

Cabo San Lucas is your go-to destination for nightly parties and entertainment, while San Jose, with its mariachi bands and outdoor music scene, is a little more bohemian.

If you’re more interested in relaxation and romance than letting your hair down, Los Cabos won’t disappoint. The corridor is lined with beaches, each with its own sense of character. Although some are not swimmable due to strong currents, they are all worth checking out for a spot of yoga, sunbaking or even a sunrise horse ride.

When you’ve had enough sun and sand, why not hit the spa? Or indulge in a spot of beachfront dining while taking in the views of the spectacular Lands End rock formation. Get even closer to that granite on a sunset cruise.
