Friday showdown: Flight Centre versus helloworld

Let’s inject a little fun into Friday with a good ol’ fashioned “showdown.” This week we’re pitting a Flight Centre agent against a helloworld agent. Let’s get ready to rumble!

This week our agents are battling it out for the cheapest flights to Hawaii in April from Sydney (in honour of Mahalo Month that’s soon coming up).

So without further ado, let’s hand it over to Terry who will be refereeing the battle.

Take it away Terry.

TERRY: Thanks Shaun.

In the red corner we have Suzie. She’s been in the industry for 10 years, her average commission earnings per month is 12k, and she recently came back refreshed from a 5-day famil in Laos courtesy of G Adventures.

Let’s hear it for Suzie!

TERRY: And in the blue corner, representing helloworld, we have Mike.

He’s been consulting for 8 years, first as a corporate agent for FCm and then switching over to the blue side with helloworld as a retail travel agent.

He averages more than 15k a month, prides himself on his eagle ways, and recently won the prestigious travel agent of year award for 2015.

Let’s hear it for Mike!

TERRY: Let’s have a clean and fair fight guys.

(BOTH AGENTS NOD)

**Round one.**

Ready? Set? Go!

And it’s Suzie who has thrown the first quote. It’s flying Air New Zealand to Honolulu from Sydney for $1,299 return.

And – wait, she’s even throwing in a FREE stopover!

(CROWD CHEERS)

TERRY: Oooooo, that’s gotta hurt!

But wait – Mike is busy typing something up. He has his eagle face on, and his fingers are typing at a million strokes per hour!

And BANG! Mike has found return flights with with Jetstar – DIRECT – for just $899, including 20kg of checked baggage for the same dates.

(CROWD GOES WILD)

TERRY: But wait a minute. Suzie isn’t done yet. She’s found DIRECT flights with Hawaiian Airlines from Sydney for $1,099. That’s only $200 more flying with a full-service airline – including meals, baggage, entertainment, and, of course, that famous Hawaiian hospitality.

Go Suzie!

(CROWD STARTS CHANTING SUZIE, SUZIE, SUZIE!)

TERRY: And round one is over.

Mike looks defeated as he goes back to his corner and consults with his manager – who now seems to be whispering something into Mike’s ears, and now Mike is smiling from ear to ear…

Is it a new deal? Does Mike have access to a better base fare?

Suzie, meanwhile, is using this time to consult with her brand leader…

TERRY: Round two. Go!

And Mike has done the unthinkable: he’s found DIRECT flights with Hawaiian Airlines for …. $999! He’s managed to get a cheaper booking class on the outbound flight and this has dropped the airfare to a lower price tier!

WOW!

But, wait, it’s not over yet!

Suzie has used her PRICE BEAT super powers and beaten the price by $1. She’s now offering the flight for just $998 – what a steal!

giphy-5

Mike looks a bit dizzy, and he looks like he’s … I think he’s … yep … he’s gone. Mike has fallen down and isn’t getting up.

One.

Two.

Oh wait!

Mike is back up, and now he’s thrown in a free night at the Coconut Waikiki Hotel for his quoted price of $999!

giphy-6

What will Suzie do in response? Oh, wait … yep, that’s TIME!

(DING DING DING)

And that’s the end of the fight folks.

Just getting the final results from our panel of judges now…

(LISTENS TO EARPIECE)

Yep … OK …

It’s a DRAW folks.

giphy-7

There are no losers in the travel industry, and I look forward to a rematch between you two fine agents in the future.

Suzie, is there anything you’d like to say to your fans out there:

(CROWD SILENCES)

SUZIE: Yes, I’d just like to thank the Captain. He’s always in my corner, and he’s just so god-damn good-looking! This one’s for you Oh Capitan!

TERRY: Thanks Suzie.

And Mike, do you have anything you’d like to say to your people?

MIKE: Yes, I’d like to thank all our fans who have been with us through all our incarnations, and for their continued support moving forward. It’s a great world, when you’re in a helloworld!

(CROWD CHEERS)

TERRY: Thanks Mike.

Well, that’s it folks. Until next week. Back to you Shaun.

Thanks Terry.

It was a fierce and entertaining battle, and I want to thank both Flight Centre and helloworld for a great fight.

Looking forward to next week.

Over and out!

**NOTE: Suzie and Mike don’t actually exist. They were completely made up.
