Qantas operates next generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft (up to 22 flights per day and 118 flights per week) with an all-inclusive service in Business and Economy across the Tasman.

Here are our recommendations on where to stay, where to eat, and what to do in NZ to experience the country a little differently…

Stay at The Boot Bed and Breakfast

When you first set your eyes on The Boot, located right in the heart of the Tasman region, you may just think you’ve stepped out of reality and into some bizarre fairy tale world.

Shaped like a boot, this quirky bed and breakfast is a fully equipped stand alone cottage, complete with a kitchenette, fireplace, and a shower built for two. Just up the spiral staircase, guests will find a  regal queen-sized bed and a Juliet balcony with views into the courtyard and across the pond.

Set on a 6 acre property, The Boot is a little pocket of luxury set in some of the most gorgeous scenery imaginable, and with breakfast delivered to your door each morning, there may not even be a reason to leave your own little world.

Dine at the Redwoods Treehouse Restaurant

Relive your childhood for an hour or two and dine at the Redwoods Treehouse Restaurant– a pod-shaped restaurant built ten metres high around a redwood tree near Warkworth, north of Auckland.

Definitely one of the most unusual and exclusive restaurants in NZ, access to the Treehouse is provided by an elevated treetop walkway where you’ll be joined by up to 30 seated guests for an exquisite meal under the forest canopy  You really can’t get any closer to nature than this.

Go black water rafting

No, this isn’t a typo. Sure, most people have tried white water rafting. But black water rafting? That’s a little different.

Essentially white water rafting, but through the subterranean wonderland of Waitomo Caves, black water rafting in NZ is a natural choice for adrenaline junkies, taking them on an exhilarating tubing adventure through the cave’s network of water passageways under almost complete darkness – glowworms will light some of the way for you. It’s truly one unforgettable journey.

Take part in the world’s most southerly pub quiz

Do something a little different on your NZ escape and put your general knowledge to the test at Stewart Island’s South Seas Hotel – officially the most southerly pub in the world (and the pub Prince Harry visited just last year).

The friendly locals here will make you feel most welcomed, and the beer or two will definitely help you remember just who won the World Cup in 2002 and the name of that one-hit wonder singer back in the 80s.

Note: quiz master Vicki may use the odd ‘colourful language,’ and punters are reminded not to take things too seriously – remember you’re on holiday!

Drink in a shipping container

Grab a pint of local craft beer or a glass of Cottier Estate Pinot Noir at the Cargo Bar in Christchurch, and toast your drink to bars that are just a little bit different. Created out of former shipping containers, Cargo Bar is a popular drinking hole that’s as famous for its cocktails as its unique design.

It also serves one helluva good pizza. It’s just down the road from The Court Theatre and AMI stadium too, making it ideal for pre-theatre dinner and drinks.

So, what are you waiting for?
