Is this tourist an artistic genius or just plain weird?

He may be weird, a little eccentric perhaps, but there's no denying that this traveller is about as unique and original as they come. In fact, he may even be an artistic genius...

He may be weird, a little eccentric perhaps, but there’s no denying that this traveller is about as unique and original as they come. In fact, he may even be an artistic genius…

Sam Barsky from Maryland in the USA isn’t like most people.

Unlike most tourists content to leave with a just few holiday snaps of their time away, Sam takes things many artistic steps further by actually knitting sweaters of famous places from around the world, and then wearing them in front of the inspired destinations.

His process goes a little like this: first, knit a sweater of some famous place; second, travel to said place; third, have a picture taken wearing knitted sweater at actual place.

Oh wait, there’s a fourth step: four, post these pictures on uber well-known Facebook page, which currently has over 32k followers.

Well everyone has to have a hobby, right?

Sam has knitted – get this – over 100 jumpers, each featuring a famous landmark from all around the world, such as Times Square, the Golden Gate Bridge and Stone Henge.

He started knitting in 1991 after health problems forced him to drop out of nursing school and stay at home. It was during this time that Sam was introduced to knitting. Before trying his hand at more complex designs, Sam started off with simply designed creations.

According to Sam, each sweater takes about a month to make. And although the vast majority of his creations are travel inspired, Sam sometimes knits sweaters for special occasions, such as Chanukah.

Oh, and just in case you’re wondering: Sam doesn’t do this for any money – he just loves knitting and travel!

But in all seriousness, Sam is definitely a person that certainly loves what he’s doing.

And for that we give him the KarryOn thumbs up.
