Check-in

The airline offers both online check-in and bag drop at the airport as well as traditional check-in.

The traditional check-in queue had one counter whilst there were five for bag drop off – this progressed much quicker.

The check-in time was 55 minutes.

Extra Comfort Seating

The Extra Comfort seats are very spacious and comfortable and with generous leg room. You can revert your seat fully without interfering on your fellow passenger’s space behind you.

The entertainment system offers movies, TV shows and music as well as a convenient USB port

Crew

The Hawaiian Airlines staff is renowned for their excellent service and for giving their passengers a warm ‘Aloha’ welcome and this flight was no exception.

Dressed in the traditional Hawaiian flower patterns and wearing big smiles the crew lit up the cabin minutes after I got onboard and one flight attendant really went the extra mile and searched the entire plane to ensure a fellow Australian passenger got his favourite ‘Bikini’ beer.

Hawaiian Airlines also has a new very cute safety video that did not just demonstrate the safety onboard by the crew members but also gave you a tour of the different  Hawaiian islands. The hunky rowers in the video were particularly popular among the female passengers.

Before taking off the Captain introduced himself in person to those in Business Class and to us travelling in Extra Comfort before giving us a rundown of the flight ahead.

Amenities

It wasn’t just the Business Class passengers who received the amentiy kit, even us passengers flying Extra Comfort received this cool kit including; a toothbrush, pen, tissues, earplugs, comb and a coconut scented facial spray, hand cream and lip balm from the airlines’ own signature brand called Loli’I  which means relaxation.

After dinner I sprayed my face with the Loli’I spray (smells like a mix between a pina colada and Body Shop’s coconut body butter) and gave my hands a good coat of the hand cream before putting on the eye mask for a few hours sleep.

Food & Drinks

The first meal served was a hot meal including chicken stew and mashed potatoes with a garden salad, vinaigrette as well as a strawberry jam pudding.

The meal tray comes with a linen napkin and steel cutlery.

The second meal served was breakfast which came in a plastic bag and included; a croissant, a breakfast muffin, yoghurt and apple snack pieces.

Did you know?

From second quarter next year, the airline will remove the existing recliner seats in the A330 Business Class and install business seats that convert into fully-flat beds.

The seats will be arranged in a 2-2-2 configuration and will give the airline an edge to compete with Jetstar, which currently offers premium business seats on flights to Hawaii.

In Economy, the carrier will add an extra 28 Economy comfort seats which feature a 36-inch seat pitch (five inches more than other economy seats), priority boarding at the gate, complimentary inflight entertainment and a personal power outlet.
