From flying home to see the rellies to jetting off on an overseas holiday, thousands of Aussies will be starting the Christmas holidays at the airport.
Wotif.com has crunched the numbers to reveal the busiest airports on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (according to arrival and flight departures*) finding Sydney, Melbourne (Tullamarine), Gold Coast and Brisbane will be full of Aussie travellers.
Wotif® Travel Spokesperson Kim Stockham said many Australians will be flying home for the festive season and spending part of the holiday break at the airport.
“With many Australians working up until Christmas Eve, the day before Christmas is a popular date for flying with people eager to spend the holidays with family and friends.”
“This time of the year is incredibly busy for travel and like one in two Australians who’ve booked a trip with Wotif, I’ll be heading home for Christmas and spending part of my Christmas Eve at the airport.”
Not all Aussies will be heading home, many will be swapping home for a holiday this festive season.
“Holidaymakers are following the sun this season with Denpasar airport in Bali expected to be the busiest overseas airport for Wotif Aussie flyers this Christmas, followed by Auckland and Nadi Airport in Fiji,”
