Ah the 80s. It was the decade when everyone owned a fluro t-shirt or bikini, when budgie smugglers were the rule, not the exception, and when slo-mo beach runs were a staple of TV adverts.
And tourism agencies around the country were leading the fore on this front.
Case in point: Gold Coast Tourism.
Keen to promote this gorgeous beach-front city (still relatively unheard of back then) to a domestic and international audience, they ticked all the boxes when it came to classic 80s TV commercial promo devices.
Check it out for yourself!
Charming isn’t it?
It certainly takes you back to the good old days…
The 80s were a time of massive growth in the tourism sector in Australia, with the core message underlying the various campaigns across the country peddling Australia’s laid back vibe, stunning beaches and friendly people.
And we think that’s still the case – especially up in the Gold Coast.
It’s still one of the major draw cards for international visitors, and still the family-friendly place it always was.
We’re certain this old video was pretty effective in drumming up interest in Queensland back then.
And we sure do miss those slow motion beach runs…
