International airfares may be extremely appealing right now, but that hasn’t distracted young Australians from setting off on a domestic adventure.
According to research commissioned by Contiki, intention to travel Australia or New Zealand is high amongst the 18-35 year market, with 74 percent saying they’re planning a local trip in the next three to four years.
The figure, although high, is still slightly below the 88 percent that said they’re keen to travel overseas and the 93 percent planning a trans-Tasman holiday.
Katrina Barry, Managing Director, Contiki said although travel intent is strong, the 18-35s market is becoming increasingly “discerning”, wanting to ensure “they’re getting the most out of their investment”.
She continued, saying that’s why the tour operator’s 2016/17 Australia and New Zealand program was designed to offer “great value” along with memorable experience”.
“This year also sees a big focus on great accommodation, featuring a range of centrally located, three or four stars hotels as well as unique stays such as an outback cattle station or a Whitsundays private sailboat.”

“Bringing all of this together is the best team in the business, whether it’s passionate Aussies bringing our local gems to life or dedicated Kiwis showing off their home soil.”
Expanding on the Australia collection, this year Contiki has introduced a brand new Melbourne trip, the four-day Melbourne Discovery. This city adventure showcases the very best of this cultural hub including amazing shopping, delicious food, incredible architecture and amazing street art.
