Rocky Mountaineer’s presence in Australia may be strong but don’t expect to see the company sitting on its hands in the market anytime soon.
The rail operator’s new President, Steve Sammut, told KarryOn that he is on a mission to build business locally after spotting potential for further growth in the market.
He said the team is currently cooking up new and “creative ways” to grow its presence and it all starts with expanding its partnerships with trade – a step he personally kicked off last month when he travelled down under to meet with industry peers.
“We’re seeking creative ways to build our partnerships with trade, as well as unique marketing offerings that can bring our experience to life for consumers.”

On a larger scale, the company is committed to improving services for customers by tweaking details at the guests level. This includes looking at the range of pre and post-trip options and the accommodation.
Among the biggest changes to pre and post in 2016 was the introduction of more rail and cruise itineraries thanks to the company’s partnership with Holland America. There’s also the addition of new hotels plus an extended season to meet demand from holidaymakers.
“We have spent a lot of time developing a strong, well-thought out strategic plan for our business, and it’s exciting to see the elements of the plan being put into action.”

“We’re already seeing some of the pay off in things such as revenue growth, brand building, the addition of rolling stock and leadership development, and we’re still early in the game.”
