Believe it or not - Tigerair is one of the most punctual airlines in Australia

Operational improvements and the Virgin-effect have not only made Tigerair a symbol for reformed budget airlines, but also one of Australia's most punctual carriers.

Operational improvements and the Virgin-effect have not only made Tigerair a symbol for reformed budget airlines, but also one of Australia’s most punctual carriers.

The airline that once carried a bad rep amongst the Australian public has recorded the best on-time performance for low-cost carriers during the 2015 calendar year.

According to statistics from the Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics, around 84.2 percent of Tigerair services departed on-time last year. This was well ahead of its budget rival, Jetstar, which had around 76.2 percent punctual departures.

The carrier’s arrivals were also ahead of Jetstar, with 83 percent of Tigerair’s flights touching down on-time compared to Jetstar’s 81 percent.

That’s not all. The striped airline beat Jetstar when it came to cancellations, with only 0.9 percent of flights cancelled compared to Jetstar’s 2.9 percent.

Virgin Australia

Overall, Virgin Australia was the aviation leader for on-time departure and on-time arrivals followed by Qantas.

While Virgin was more punctual in arrivals and departures, the carrier cancelled a few more flights than the Flying Kangaroo, with some 1,976 cancelled services compared to Qantas’ 1,282.
