Aussie Travel Agent helps christen APT's new river ship

Bicton Travel's Carole Smethurst can officially say she's done something no other Aussie Travel Agent (that we know of) has done – christened a European river cruise ship.

Bicton Travel’s Carole Smethurst can officially say she’s done something no other Aussie Travel Agent (that we know of) has done – christened a European river cruise ship.

The owner of the Perth-based business became the first Aussie Agent godmother this week, when she carried out her godmother duties in Vilshofen, Germany.

She broke a bottle of champagne against the hull of her ‘godship’, APT’s newest European vessel, AmaStella.

Carole said she felt honoured by APT’s decision to select her as godmother to the 158-passenger European vessel.

“I will be tracking the progress of my special ‘god-ship’ and she will have a special place in my heart from now on.”

The cruise specialist was revealed as godmother in May last year, because of her reputation as one of the foremost cruise experts in Australia with an online cruise agency and a retail store that has won numerous awards for its cruise sales.

APT Group Company Director, Robert McGeary, said he was “proud” to have a multi-award winning Aussie Travel Agent as the godmother of the line’s “newest and most innovative European rivership”.

Following the christening, guests were entertained by traditional dancers, folk music and the evening was rounded off by a gunshot salute performed by the Alpine Shooters.

Also in attendance were APT’s guests from Australia, New Zealand and the UK, as well as local residents.

AmaStella will sail the Rhine, Main and Danube Rivers in 2016 and offers innovative design features including twin balconies (an APT exclusive), interconnecting cabins for multigenerational or group travel and spacious suites that measure up to 350 sq. feet.
