Friday Cocktail: Espresso Martini

World Martini Day is coming up on Sunday 19 June and what better way to celebrate our Friday Cocktail than with one of Australia's most popular cocktails - the Espresso Martini.

World Martini Day is coming up on Sunday 19 June and what better way to celebrate our Friday Cocktail than with one of Australia’s most popular cocktails – the Espresso Martini.

The Espresso Martini has a relatively short history, in cocktail terms, with the drink believed to have been first created in the early eighties by London bartender Dick Bradsel.

According to the bartender, a famous model at the time entered the Soho Brasserie where he was working, and asked him to create a drink that would “wake her up”.

Fast forwarding thirty odd years and the Espresso Martini is one of the nation’s favourite cocktails.

Given Australia’s obsession with good coffee it’s no surprise that when ordering the cocktail in any Aussie cocktail bar you will get premium shot directly from the espresso machine mixed with vodka, Kahlua and Frangelico.

So if you need a ‘pick me up’ cocktail to kickstart the weekend after a hectic week at work this popular cocktail should do the trick!
