Eighteen new long-range A321neoLRs will be joining the Jetstar fleet from mid-2020 to fly the carrier’s Melbourne and Sydney to Bali routes.
Once the new aircraft start these flying routes, it will free up Jetstar’s existing Boeing 787-8s to be redeployed to other destinations in China, Thailand and Vietnam and Honolulu.
“All 18 A321LR NEOs are expected to be delivered by the end of 2022 to replace Jetstar’s oldest A320s for use on domestic and international routes, and will each deliver a fuel burn improvement of around 15 per cent.”
Qantas.
This 15% reduction in fuel burn will in turn increase the range that the aircraft can fly, meaning the A321NEOs will be able to travel 700 kilometres further than the aircraft they are replacing.
The aircraft will also have a 50% reduction in noise compared to the A320s.
The fuel-friendly planes will actually be the first aircraft to be delivered from the Qantas Group’s order for 99 A320neo family planes.
This order was originally made up of 54 A320neos and 45 of the larger A321neo, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2019.
The interior of the new planes will be a little more schmick as well with “new slimline seats and more baggage space”.
Jetstar has also suggested that the new aircraft should result in the availability of “more low fares”.
“The larger A321 aircraft is longer and carries at least 40 more seats on each aircraft than the A320 which means more low fares”.
Jetstar.
