New York is quite simply one of the busiest, artsiest, most interesting cities in the world and Virgin Australia and Delta Air Lines are helping you get there for less than $1200.

It used to be all about Manhattan and uptown but New York’s cool could not be contained and it has spread to the boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens and beyond. These areas were once just places you lived if you couldn’t afford to live on the island. Now they are bustling burgs with artisan coffee, boutique brews and amazing shopping.

Here is what to do on your next trip to NYC:

Check out the (other) boroughs

Brooklyn has changed from no-go zone to must-visit precinct in recent years. Take a neighbourhood tour that explores the famous Brooklyn Bridge, takes you to the incredible Prospect Park and to the permanent fun park of Coney Island, seen in many films and TV shows. Checkout the famous brownstones buildings or hit up the many art galleries and bars.

Lower Manhattan used to just be the finance district, home to Wall Street, but now there is more than money to visit here for; checkout the sites like Federal Hall and the 9/11 Memorial, or grab a bite at Brookfield Place – this is where New York was born.

Shop til you drop

This is one of the city’s top past times whether you like to stroll the luxurious department stores like Bergdorf’s and Sak’s or discover cutting-edge new designers.

Head down to Century 21, a department store that has lasted in New York for 50 years by putting the top designers permanently on sale; come in for a bargain from brands like Dolce and Gabbana.

You can find the fashion young guns and newer department stories like Dover Street Market that celebrates the more avant-garde designers.

Head to the home of theatre

Some things change and some things don’t, and Broadway will forever be the best place in the world to see a live show. If you love musicals, head to Summer: The Donna Summer Musical that stars Broadway newcomer Storm Lever as the golden pipes that launched a million disco hits from I Feel Love to The Queen is Back. The story also highlights the struggles and the passion behind Summer’s biggest songs.

Stay in style

It’s not every day you are staying in the Big Apple so splash out on some typically stylish NYC digs by staying at The Redbury, a collab between SBE Hotels and photographer Matthew Rolston in the newly hip NoMad district – north of Madison Avenue.

Fancy something with a bit more history? Keep an eye out for the re-opening of the classic Chelsea Hotel, home to rock stars for years that is getting a makeover and due to be back in 2019.
