Travelling non-stop from Australia to Europe is now almost as fast as flying non-stop to Houston in the United States as Qantas breaks yet another speed record on the Perth-London route.
Last month, the Flying Kangaroo managed to cut the estimated 17 hours and 20 minute travel time on a Perth-London service down to 16 hours and 23 minutes.
That’s 10 minutes shorter than the previous record, one hour shorter than its estimated time and only 30 minutes longer than a flight from Sydney to Texas.
QF9 to London has consistently arrived at least 45 minutes ahead of schedule since launching in March this year, thanks to pilots who change their flight path depending on winds, The West Australian reported.
Favourable wind conditions also helped Qantas smash its return speed in April this year, from 17 hours to 15 hours and 45 minutes.
Despite the ever-decreasing speed of travel, Qantas’ Dreamliner services to London are operated by four pilots who rotate shifts to allow one or two pilots to rest at any given time.
