When you’re dangling in a gondola thousands of metres above the ground, have you ever thought, this would be even better if I could stand on the roof?
If so, your dreams have just been answered by a new cableway above in the French Alps above the ski resort of Tignes which has a hair-raising viewing terrace ON ITS ROOF.
The open-top cabin is big enough for 20 (BRAVE) passengers and offers 360-degree views (sans perspex glass) of one of the most beautiful panoramas of the French Alps.
Here you can breathe in the mountain air with views of Mont Blanc, the Cime de Bellecôte and the Aiguille de la Grande Sassière.
For those who would prefer to stay inside, no worries. The cable cars can safely hold 100 below people as it takes passengers from Tignes funicular station at 2100 meters to the Grande Motte glacier at almost 3500 metres.
The cableway was designed in Switzerland by Garaventa and can safely withstand the high altitude (as you would hope).
The rooftop open-air sections will not operate in autumn and winter due to the likelihood of bad weather conditions at altitude.
The open-air section will first be open to the public next May.
