When you think of Wendy Wu Tours, the words ‘Asia Specialist’ tend to come in mind, but did you know that the tour operator also specialises in travel to South America?
SURPRISE! Neither did we!
Group Chief Executive, Joe Karbo, revealed to Travel Agents last night at the brand’s 25th-anniversary celebrations in Sydney that Wendy Wu Tours launched South America trips this year.
It’s true!
He confirmed that the group had expanded beyond Asia to include itineraries in Chile, Peru, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Costa Rica and Panama.
Karbo told attendees that the decision to move into Latin American came after realising travel similarities between the southern region and Asia.
“A lot of people say, ‘why South America?’. we believe it’s a hand-held destination… similar to China.”

He explained that as a ‘handheld destination’, it’s not one where all travellers can go in and “just do their thing”.
“If you really want to see South American countries, it’s well worth your wild having a guide or being on tour,” he said.
Wendy Wu Tours’ 25th year (2018) has been full of major announcements, including the launch of the brand’s first river ship, which will be based in the Mekong.
