Keep calm & carry on packing for that long-awaited Peruvian holiday because maintenance on the Inca Trail DOES NOT mean the closure of the Machu Picchu.
Travellers have been reassured that Peru’s historic citadel of Machu Picchu will remain open for visitors between 1 February to 28 February when the popular Inca Trail closes for maintenance work.
For some 19 years, the popular Inca Trail has undergone regular maintenance to ensure visitor safety.
During the four-week period, alternative routes to Machu Picchu such as Salkantay, Lares, Ausangate or Choquequirao, will continue operating ensuring ongoing access to The Lost City of the Incas.
“The citadel of Machu Picchu will be open to the public.”
PROMPERU
An official statement from PROMPERU clarified the situation and informed that entrance to the Inca Trail will resume on 1 March 2019, once maintenance and cleaning work is complete.
