Rocky Mountaineer’s 2019 season is officially underway with the luxury train leaving its station in Vancouver last week, bound for the Canadian Rockies in style.
This season’s first guests were welcomed by live piano music and a red carpet to begin their journey into the Canadian wilderness.
The upcoming season brings many new developments, including seven newly built GoldLeaf Service glass-domed rail cars to its fleet.
To meet the growing demand from travellers four new rail cars are being added this month, with three additional cars coming later in the season.
This will bring the company’s total to 26 bi-level GoldLeaf rail cars and 16 single-level SilverLeaf rail cars by 2020.
“These new GoldLeaf rail cars will allow us to welcome even more guests on board our trains and offer increased availability across our most popular dates and routes,” Steve Sammut, president and chief executive officer, Rocky Mountaineer said.
“We were intentional in designing these new cars to offer the same exemplary guest comfort across the entire fleet, while also making numerous engineering enhancements behind the scenes.”

The design by Swiss rail car company Stadler features oversized glass-dome windows and a separate dining area for guests travelling through the Canadian Rockies, each seating 72 guests.
The new cars have dimmable upper-level windows, upgraded galley kitchens with new appliances and heated leather seats that recline and rotate 180 degrees for social seating.
The new cars will be added to the trains travelling on two of Rocky Mountaineer’s routes: First Passage to the West, a two-day rail journey between Vancouver and Lake Louise or Banff; and Journey through the Clouds, a two-day rail journey between Vancouver and Jasper.
2019 also sees Rocky Mountaineer introduce four new destinations to its holiday packages, Canmore, Kananaskis, Sunshine Village and the Cariboo Mountains.
