As of this week, all international tourists visiting the idyllic Indonesian islands of Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan will be charged a levy.
Tourists arriving at any of these three Islands (which are still considered part of Bali but are a 30-minute speed boat ride away) are required to pay IDR25,000 (AU$2.50) per adult or IDR15,000 (AU$1.50) per child.
Payment will be collected on arrival and one payment will be valid for all three islands. Bali itself is not affected by the new tax.
The cash collected will be used by Nusa Penida administration to develop and improve infrastructure on the island.
Authorities have told local media that they expect tourists to have no objection to paying the small island entrance fee.
All three islands are known for their excellent diving sites, surfing and hiking spots and beautiful scenery.
By all reports, the tropical trio of islands is gaining popularity, particularly among those looking to soak up the natural beauty of Bali while escaping the hustle and bustle on the main island.
