Sydney Airport is hosting a second jobs fair to fill thousands of roles from airlines and luxury retail to customs across the airport precinct to meet ramped-up demand for travel ahead of the busy September school holidays and end-of-year Christmas periods.
Held on Wednesday 21 September 2022 from 10am to 4pm on level 3 of the T1 International Terminal, the jobs fair will include 50 of Sydney Airport’s largest employers with prospective job hunters able to meet representatives and apply for a role on the spot.
Luxury retailers, hotels, airlines, government agencies, and terminal service providers are in the market for employees with major employers including Virgin Australia, Qantas, Australian Border Force, Australian Federal Police, Saint Laurent, Heinemann Tax & Duty Free, Global Exchange and Swissport.
This is the second SYD jobs fair this year, following the success of the first careers event on 16 June 2022 where around 2,500 of 5,000 open roles were filled.
SYD CEO Geoff Culbert said: “The aviation industry continues to be challenged by labour shortages and with the passenger recovery tracking ahead of the workforce recovery, we’re doing everything we can to support 800 organisations across the airport recruit the right people for these vital roles.”
The jobs fair preempts the September school holidays when initiatives will be in place to ensure passengers travel safely, including extra customer service reps in the terminals.
SYD is advising passengers to arrive around two hours before departure for domestic flights and three hours prior for international flights ahead of the holiday period.
“The situation is improving as we bring on more resources, but we still expect to see queuing during peak periods like Monday, Thursday and Friday mornings. That’s why we’re continuing to advise domestic passengers to arrive two hours prior to the departure of their flight,” Mr Culbert said.
