United Airlines is relaunching its Sydney–Houston and Melbourne–LA flights and increasing the frequency of the existing Melbourne–San Francisco route to daily services from 28 October 2022, offering even more direct flight options for Aussies ahead of the US winter season.

The Sydney–Houston route will begin again, flying from Texas to Australia on 28 October with three weekly flights initially, increasing to daily services from 15 December.

The Melbourne–Los Angeles route will also recommence on 28 October from LAX to MEL with three weekly flights that will fly daily from 1 December.

The current thrice-weekly Melbourne–San Francisco route will increase to a daily service from 28 October, flying from San Francisco.

United’s daily Melbourne services will see flights up to 40 per cent above pre-pandemic levels.

Melbourne Airport CEO Lorie Argus said the move would significantly increase passenger and cargo capacity between Victoria and the US, providing a huge boost for tourism and the Victorian economy.

Brisbane will also enjoy non-stop flights to San Francisco with three weekly flights starting on 31 October 2022.

United Airlines was the only carrier to maintain passenger flights between Australia and the US during the pandemic and the extra capacity will offer more international services as travel demand continues to soar.
