P&O Cruises’ Pacific Adventure calls into two more Vanuatu ports for cruise revival

Vanuatu has now reopened more cruising destinations with the arrival of Pacific Adventure to Mystery Island and Luganville over the weekend. She follows sister ship Pacific Encounter, which was the first passenger ship to cruise back to Port Vila on 9 November.

Vanuatu has now reopened more cruising destinations with the arrival of Pacific Adventure to Mystery Island and Luganville over the weekend. She follows sister ship Pacific Encounter, which was the first passenger ship to cruise back to Port Vila on 9 November.

Sydney-based Pacific Adventure sailed into Mystery Island on Saturday 19 November with 2,000 passengers on board who were welcomed by the nearby Aneityum community where cruising is the key economic driver.

Pacific Adventure visited Luganville on the island of Espiritu Santo on Sunday as well as a call to the Vanuatu capital, Port Vila.

The 10-night South Pacific cruise also sailed into Noumea in New Caledonia on the way to Vanuatu’s three signature destinations.

P&O Cruises Australia announced earlier in the year that the cruise line was working with local authorities to stage the reintroduction of cruise calls to the island nation.

President of Carnival Australia and P&O Cruises Australia Marguerite Fitzgerald said: “Pacific Adventure becoming the first cruise ship to return to Mystery Island and Luganville completes the set of Vanuatu destinations that underpins our deep attachment to Vanuatu and its island communities.”

“We felt honoured that P&O was invited to be the first cruise line to return to Port Vila with Pacific Encounter’s recent visit.

“It is an additional honour for P&O to be the first cruise line to be invited to visit Mystery Island and Luganville in Vanuatu’s trial reintroduction of cruise tourism.”
