Virgin Australia’s Velocity Frequent Flyer rewards scheme has reached new heights with 11 million members nationwide, making it Australia’s third-largest loyalty program with at least one member in every Aussie household.
More than 2,000 members join Velocity daily, accounting for some of the program’s highest acquisition numbers in its history. The average Points earned per member per month has also more than doubled since January 2022.
Like Virgin Australia, Velocity has undergone a significant transformation over the past two years. It introduced benefits such as new airline partnerships, earn and redemption opportunities, a business strategy and membership innovations.
The new member growth plus the highly publicised ‘Switch-A-Roo’ offer, which saw thousands join Velocity from its competitor, has contributed to the upward trajectory.
Velocity CEO Nick Rohrlach said the 11-million milestone and recent membership surge reflect that Velocity’s renewed offering is resonating with travellers.
“We like to do things differently, taking airline loyalty out of the mould and offering unique experiences, exceptional rewards and unparalleled service that attract new members and recognise those who have been loyal to us for a very long time,” Mr Rohrlach said.
“We know we have a compelling offer for business and leisure travellers who have less discretionary spend amid rising inflation but want better-value airfares and a much easier pathway to achieve Gold and Platinum Status, all while flying with a premium and vibrant airline like Virgin Australia.
“Eleven million members is a huge milestone and as we look forward, our ambition is to nurture and reward our existing membership base, which we know will result in even more Australians joining the Velocity family,” he said.
