Intrepid Travel held its first annual company day since 2019 with more than 300 employees and supplier partners, including 27 tour leaders from all continents except Antarctica, coming together at The Edge in Melbourne’s Federation Square on 3 March 2023.
The Intrepid Travel Global Summit also hosted 40 different nationalities and more than 60 senior business leaders at the one-day event where CEO James Thornton outlined the company’s 2030 strategy.
He shared that Intrepid will go beyond travel to become an iconic global brand, expanding into new verticals including accommodation, media and more.
Mr Thornton added that Intrepid will be its own category, synonymous with sustainable experiences, and grow its US and UK markets and expand to new countries to become a billion-dollar B Corp.

Co-Founder and Chair Darrell Wade unveiled Intrepid’s plan to be a company owned by its staff where eligible employees will become shareholders and guide the company’s future.
The Intrepid Foundation GM Bi Zhang also announced that Intrepid will make donations on behalf of travellers in the future to further empower travellers to make a real impact in the communities they visit.
Reflecting on the day, Mr Thornton said: “At the heart of everything we do as a business is our people, and the Global Summit was a chance to recognise and celebrate all they have achieved over the past four years in an unprecedentedly challenging environment.”

“Most importantly, it was an opportunity to look to the future of Intrepid that I believe will see us continue to grow into an iconic global brand that is leading the pack in championing a climate-conscious, sustainable future for our industry, our communities and the planet.
“Together, we have a collective vision to build the best travel company for the world and this year’s Global Summit highlighted that we are well on our way.”
Intrepid Travel has launched 80-plus new experiences for 2023 to allow travellers to explore the world more responsibly.
