Carnival Cruise Line reached a historic industry high-water mark as the first to transport 100 million passengers since its inaugural sailing in 1972. The 100 millionth guests, Debbie and David Clifford from Ohio, boarded Carnival Sunrise with their family on Friday.
Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy greeted Carnival Sunrise passengers boarding at PortMiami, where the US-based cruise line was founded, to thank them for choosing fun since 1972 and making Carnival the world’s most popular cruise line.
Guests embarking on the cruise took part in the festivities with special photos signifying how each Carnival passenger is ‘One in 100 Million’.
The 100 million-guest milestone represents more than the combined populations of Australia, Canada and Panama and includes an amazing 167 super cruisers who have sailed on 100-plus Carnival cruises.

“We’re the first cruise line to meet this incredible mark of 100 million guests and I believe it is a testament to the fun, inclusive atmosphere our valued guests and our extraordinary team members have created together on board our ships for the past 51 years,” Ms Duffy said.
“There is certainly much more fun to come. We’re continuing to grow our operations at a rapid pace – with three ships joining our fleet by the spring of next year.”

New Carnival ships on the horizon
The new Carnival Celebration has already embarked on her first few months sailing from Miami and Carnival Venezia will debut in May, expanding the cruise line’s New York offerings from seasonal to year-round and hosting all-new ‘Carnival Fun Italian Style’ experiences.
Later this year, Carnival Jubilee, a third sister ship to Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration, will join the fleet and sail from Galveston, Texas.
In the 2024 Northern Hemisphere spring, Carnival Firenze, sister ship to Carnival Venezia, will begin year-round cruises from Long Beach, California.
Closer to home, Carnival Australia clocked up a decade of Australian cruising holidays after returning to service in October 2022.
Carnival has four ships sailing in and from Australia, cruising from Sydney and Brisbane – Splendor, Legend, Spirit and Luminosa.
