Hong Kong has welcomed Royal Caribbean and international cruising back for the first time since travel resumed with Spectrum of the Seas homeported in the city in 2024.
Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) held a welcome ceremony for Spectrum of the Seas passengers at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal on 4 August to herald the cruise liner’s return and the safe resumption of international cruising to the city.
The city-state only reopened to vaccinated overseas tourists seven months ago, dropping its mandatory mask rule on 1 March 2023.

The wave-making news continues with 18 cruise lines set to return to Hong Kong in 2023, marking a total of 166 ship calls.
Cruise companies confirmed to visit Hong Kong this year alongside RCI include Azamara, Celebrity Cruises, Fred Olsen Cruise Lines, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, Holland America Line, MSC Cruises, Oceania, Princess Cruises, RSSC, Silversea, Viking, Windstar and more.
The move reflects Hong Kong’s readiness to welcome more international cruise ships to the city and consolidate its position as a cruise hub in Asia, offering visitors a more diverse range of itineraries and experiences.

HKTB will continue to closely liaise with cruise lines to shore up Hong Kong as a homeport or departure port and increase the number of cruises to the city.
The tourism board also plans to launch promotional activities and build partnerships in the Greater Bay Area after giving away 500,000 free air tickets this year.
