Move over New York, London, Hong Kong, Dubai and Denmark stores … LEGO Australia and New Zealand Group and the Alquemie Group have announced that the world’s largest LEGO Store is coming to Sydney.
Set to open in the “coming months”, the new two-level, 900 sqm LEGO Store will overlook Pitt Street Mall within Sydney Arcade.
The landmark store’s design will be based on a concept called ‘Stories of Australia’, which brings Australian and Sydney culture and architecture to life in brick form.
The mega-store will feature several experiences including:
- The first LEGO Minifigure Factory in Australia, in which visitors can make a memento of their visit by personalising their own Minifigure
- A Pick and Build Wall, which comprises a signature brick experience where visitors select the exact brick elements required to create personalised builds
- A storytelling table, where fans can go behind-the-scenes of the LEGO design process via interactive areas, videos and interviews
- Hands-on play, including a play wall, free build challenges and regular in-store events
The only LEGO Certified Professional in the Southern Hemisphere, Ryan ‘The Brickman’ McNaught designed and built all of the large format 3D brick models within the store, while ‘Brick Specialists’ will be on hand to help visitors find what they’re looking for.
LEGO Australia and New Zealand Vice President and General Manager Troy Taylor said the company was excited about opening the world’s biggest LEGO Store in Sydney.
“Supporting the LEGO Group’s mission to inspire and develop builders of tomorrow, the immersive new store will feature creative play experiences, with playful nods to Australian culture, that are sure to create lasting memories for every Aussie or visitor from around the world.”
Alquemie Group Executive Chairman Richard Facioni echoed Taylor’s remarks, saying “this globally unique store will offer an immersive LEGO experience for local and international brick fans, with a number of features new to this market”.
“It will have something for LEGO fans of all ages and will definitely put Sydney on the LEGO world map!”
