Flying in the face of tourism done in fast-forward (like life in general?), Flight Centre has launched a new travel video series called Relax (Slow TV), with a focus on unrushed touring.
Slow tourism isn’t a new concept … remember the sedate train rides through the Norwegian Arctic that did the Youtube rounds a few years back – a panacea of sorts to pandemic-induced cabin fever? Now, Australia’s largest travel agency brand, Flight Centre, has got on board the (slow-paced) action with a series of videos designed to transport and tempt travellers with tranquil videos of nature together with soothing soundtracks.
The launch video follows gondola and rail rides through the Swiss Alps, while other footage shows peaceful Balinese beaches (sans the partygoers of course), Hawaiian shorelines and more.
Flight Centre Global Managing Director Andrew Stark said, “The slow TV phenomenon is the perfect platform for customers who want an escape from the hectic pace of life and seek an introspective, soothing and immersive viewing experience”.
“As part of Flight Centre’s vision to sustainably open up the world for those who want to see it, this video series invites would-be travellers to embrace a more mindful approach to how they experience travel,” he said.
“Every year we’re seeing more travellers seeking authentic experiences, becoming increasingly curious, exploring different landscapes and engaging with cultures more deeply.
“Seeing and hearing the world in real-time video really is the next best thing to being there. Our Relax (Slow TV) series is the closest we can get to try-before-you-buy in travel.”

Would-be travellers and others can view the series on YouTube or on digital screens in Flight Centre stores.
Last month, Karryon caught up with Flight Centre’s famous “captain”, to find out how he chooses his holiday destinations and much more.
In August, Flight Centre created an initiative called “Planting for the Planet” with Brisbane-based startup, Reforest.
