Thredbo Resort, managed by EVT, has unveiled its latest project: the Southern Hemisphere’s first-ever, year-round alpine coaster, slated to open this winter.
With construction of the coaster underway, the new attraction will aim to enhance the resort’s year-round recreational offerings, giving visitors an exciting new way to experience the mountain regardless of the weather.
The coaster, stretching 1.5km, will cater to both thrill-seekers and leisurely riders, allowing them to control speeds of up to 40km/h along a diverse track featuring tunnels, bridges and circles amidst the alpine landscape.
Thredbo General Manager Stuart Diver expressed excitement about the development, flagging its alignment with the resort’s commitment to delivering premium guest experiences and EVT’s strategic focus on creating extraordinary adventures.
“The Alpine Coaster is set to add a new dimension to every guest’s visit,” he remarked.

“It will be a hugely exciting on-snow experience in winter, and it will build upon our wide range of outdoor adventures in summer as a drawcard for new tourists to the village in the shoulder seasons.
“This new development is a testament to Thredbo’s commitment to provide a premium experience for our guests 365 days a year.”

Construction of the track began in October 2023 and significant milestones have been reached, with civil excavation and concrete works finished. Safety testing by independent engineers is scheduled for later this spring as part of the construction process.
The Alpine Coaster is anticipated to welcome its first customers this winter, providing an exciting addition to the resort’s offerings.

Voted Australia’s Best Ski Resort in the World Ski Awards for seven consecutive years, Thredbo welcomes around 850,000 visitors each year. It is Australia’s highest adventure destination in both summer and winter.
