The history-making American Airlines direct flight from Dallas-Fort Worth to Brisbane arrived this morning, marking Brisbane Airport and the US carrier’s longest route by distance.
The inaugural American Airlines AA7 flight landing from Dallas-Fort Worth to Brisbane touched down at 4:54am (BNE time) on 28 October 2024, a breezy 37 minutes earlier than scheduled.
At 13,363km and around 15 hours’ flight duration, it’s the longest route by distance flown by American Airlines and the longest route on Brisbane Airport’s destination map.
Starting today with five direct flights per week in each direction, American Airlines will increase to daily flights from December 2024 through to the end of March 2025.
Global flight tracking service Flightradar24 forecast that the first-ever AA Dallas-Fort Worth to Brisbane service would be one of the most tracked flights in the world.
Avgeeks rose early for Brisbane Airport’s livestream broadcast from 4:45am (BNE time) with cameras beside the runway and taxiways offering viewers a front-row window seat while 20 competition winners also watched the airfield from a special location.
Flightradar24 Director of Communications Ian Petchenik said: “We expect this to be one of the most tracked flights on Flightradar24 with people around the world tuning in to follow the aircraft’s progress from Dallas-Fort Worth to Brisbane, especially keen to watch the livestream of the landing.”
“With considerable international route growth this year, Brisbane’s popularity among aviation enthusiasts has climbed as well.”
Brisbane Airport CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff welcomed the new airline and route and the strategic opportunities they’ll deliver for both business and leisure travellers.
“Today’s arrival of American Airlines from Dallas-Fort Worth is a landmark moment for Brisbane and Queensland. From the Lone Star State to the Sunshine State, this new connection between two hubs unlocks incredible potential on both sides of the Pacific,” he said.
American Airlines Vice President International Operations José Freig agreed: “The excitement we saw when we first announced our new Brisbane flight back at the start of the year was overwhelming, so to have finally landed in the Sunshine State is a momentous occasion for American.”
The inaugural flight AA8 Brisbane to Dallas-Fort Worth service will depart tomorrow at 8:05am.
Dallas-Fort Worth is the carrier’s largest hub, offering more US capacity for Queenslanders and connecting to 200 destinations across the US, Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America, thanks to the American Airlines–Qantas joint business partnership.
