Moana and Maui fans will definitely be on board with Hawaiian Airlines’ latest aircraft livery designs featuring beloved characters from the Moana and upcoming Moana 2 animated films. Plus, the first themed A330 will also fly to and from Australia.

Hawaiian Airlines shared the first of three adorable livery designs on its Airbus A330 aircraft, featuring the titular wayfinder, shape-shifting demi-god Maui and the small-but-menacing Kakamora characters.

The themed planes will fly to HA’s international destinations, including Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Cook Islands, American Samoa and Tahiti, through to March 2025.

In November 2024, Hawaiian will unveil two more custom character decals on an Airbus A321neo, serving select US destinations and the Cook Islands, and a Boeing 717 aircraft, operating between the Hawaiian Islands.

In keeping with the theme, passengers will also be greeted with a “Welcome Voyagers” message on board Hawaiʻi’s homegrown airline.

Characters and artwork from the film will also feature on overhead luggage bins on all three themed aircraft.

Passengers can continue their wayfinder adventure with a bespoke Moana 2 augmented reality (AR) experience, which will debut with the second livery reveal.

Each Moana 2 aircraft was specifically chosen based on its name: Hōkūleʻa / Airbus A330 is the Hawaiian name for Hawaiʻi’s zenith star Arcturus and voyaging canoe; Koa / Airbus A321neo for the preferred wood used to build Polynesian voyaging canoes; and Elepaio / Boeing 717 – a native bird considered the guardian of canoe builders.

To celebrate the aircraft and film launch, HA is giving away 500,000 HawaiianMiles in a lucky draw competition running until 30 November 2024.

Alaska Airlines officially acquired Hawaiian earlier this year with both carriers continuing to operate as separate brands.
