Christmas has arrived in the Sunshine State’s main aviation hub with many schools already on holiday. Brisbane Airport expects around three million travellers to pass through its terminals over the holiday period from 13 December 2024 to 27 January 2025. Here’s BNE’s busiest days and how to navigate them with ease.
Since school let out for Queensland’s private schools on 29 November, one million people have already streamed through Brisbane Airport’s gates.
Domestic travel is forecast to be up six per cent on last year while international travel is predicted to up 18 per cent.
BNE’s busiest days

BNE expects the busiest domestic travel days will be 12, 13 and 20 December with more than 50,000 pax forecast each day.
For international travel, the busiest days are set to be 21 and 22 December and 4 January with more than 20,000 passengers per day.
Across both the domestic and international terminals, 12, 13 and 20 December are expected to be bumper days for travel.
BNE recently reported its busiest day since the pandemic and smashed its record for the most outbound passengers in one hour in the Domestic Terminal.
BNE’s top festive destinations

New Zealand, Japan and Indonesia are forecast as the top three outbound destinations for BNE, while international travellers visiting Brisbane are likely to come from New Zealand, UK and Europe and the US, thanks to added capacity.
Travellers are advised to arrive at BNE at least 90 minutes before a domestic flight and three hours prior to an international flight and book carparks in advance for a relaxed start to the holidays.
Brisbane Airport’s terminals are already alight with Christmas delight, including decorations, photo opps and activities, such as a Santa’s Workshop interactive zone and roving festive entertainment, including Acrobatic Elves and Hip-Hop Santas.
