To say 2024 was a big year for travel to Fiji would be an understatement. The Pacific hotspot celebrated a groundbreaking 12 months in 2024, surpassing a million visitors for the first time – and Aussies led the way.

Among the 1,064,792 visitors Fiji welcomed, 982,938 touched down by air, while 81,854 arrived on cruise ships.

The massive milestone represents a 5.7 per cent growth compared to 2023, exceeding the target of 966,930 tourists.

Australians accounted for 46 per cent of all arrivals, but even more impressively, their numbers grew by 4.8 per cent.

According to Tourism Fiji, the cruise sector played a major role during the year, generating significant economic benefits for local communities and businesses. And with continued collaboration, even greater returns are anticipated in 2025.

Tourism Fiji also achieved digital milestones, including a 313 per cent increase in website traffic and over one million social media followers. A refreshed brand strategy boosted engagement, with new videos garnering two million YouTube views within a month.

Fiji’s success extended to accolades, including wins at the Mumbrella Travel Marketing Summit for a GoPro adventure campaign and a Silver Award at the Australian Effie Awards for its “Where Happiness Comes Naturally” brand.

Major events like the Corona World Surf League, Spartan Fiji Trifecta, and the first NRL match in Fiji reinforced its reputation as an ever-growing and ambitious destination. This year, the country will also host the WSL Finals.

“We are thrilled to have welcomed over a million visitors to Fiji via air and cruise, but we are also focused on ensuring that this growth remains sustainable,” Tourism Fiji CEO, Brent Hill said.

“Our priority is to attract tourists who not only appreciate our stunning landscapes and rich culture but also contribute to a high-yield tourism sector.”

“With strong partnerships, a growing airline and cruise industry, and exceptional performance in key international markets, we are confident that Fiji’s tourism industry is on a promising path for continued success in the years ahead.”
