Australia-Bali airline suddenly rebrands as premium service carrier

Indonesia's TransNusa Airlines, which commenced flights between Perth and Bali on 20 March 2025, has announced a significant shift—rebranding as a premium service carrier just weeks after entering the Australian market.

Indonesia’s TransNusa Airlines, which commenced flights between Perth and Bali on 20 March 2025, has announced a significant shift—rebranding as a premium service carrier just weeks after entering the Australian market.

The airline’s transition from a hybrid low-cost model to a premium service offering aims to provide enhanced amenities across its international routes, including Australia.

A new direction for TransNusa

TransNusa Airlines has switched to a premium service model, rolling out new inclusions across all international flights—including its Australia–Bali route.

“TransNusa Airline… has rebranded itself as a Premium Service Carrier globally,” the airline announced.

Currently, TransNusa operates flights between Perth and Denpasar using Airbus A320 aircraft configured in an all-economy layout with 174 seats.

What premium means for Australia–Bali travellers

Following the shift to full premium service on 25 April 2025, all TransNusa international passengers receive inclusions based on fare type: Seat, Seat Plus, and Flexi Pro.

  • Seat:
    • 7kg cabin baggage allowance.
    • Meals, snacks, beverages, checked baggage, and seat selection available for purchase.
  • Seat Plus:

    • 15kg checked baggage included.
    • Meal, snack, and beverage provided.
    • Standard seat selection included.
  • Flexi Pro:
    • 7kg cabin baggage allowance.
    • 30kg checked baggage included.

Passengers can also pre-book meals during the booking process or via the ‘Manage Booking’ section on the airline’s website.

Focus on convenience and affordability

TransNusa emphasizes providing premium services while maintaining competitive fares. The airline’s rebranding reflects its strategy to cater to evolving passenger expectations for inclusions like meals and baggage without significantly increasing ticket prices.

Rapid growth and new routes ahead

Since launching its Australian operations in March 2025, TransNusa has been expanding its international footprint. The Perth–Denpasar service marked the airline’s first scheduled international route outside Southeast Asia.

TransNusa plans to increase the frequency of its Perth–Bali flights, with daily services commencing from 1 June 2025.

Implications for travel agents

TransNusa’s shift to a premium service model introduces a new competitor on the Australia–Bali route, traditionally dominated by low-cost carriers. For travel agents, this presents an alternative for clients seeking included meals, baggage, and a more traditional service experience without the higher costs typically associated with full-service airlines.

The airline’s simplified fare structure and built-in inclusions may appeal to travelers desiring hassle-free bookings without additional charges. As TransNusa continues to expand its international routes, agents can anticipate broader selling opportunities across Southeast Asia.
