Vietjet, the largest Vietnamese airline flying between Australia and Vietnam, has reported a 24 per cent year-on-year profit increase in Q1 2025 earnings, driven by its ambitious international expansion, including the Australian market since launching here in April 2023.
The Vietnamese budget airline is now the biggest carrier operating between Australia and Vietnam with six services, including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth to Ho Chi Minh City and Sydney and Melbourne to Hanoi.
Vietjet’s expansion in Australia addresses the growing demand for travel between the two countries, particularly in tourism and study.
Aussie visitation to Vietnam is trending up

According to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, in the first three months of 2025, the South-East Asian nation recorded an estimated 147,000 visitors from Australia, placing Australia in seventh place for the top 10 source markets.
This is tracking ahead of the annual total international visitors to Vietnam, which welcomed more than 17.5 million international visitors in 2024, a 39.5 per cent YOY increase.

Vietnam welcomed over 17.5 million international visitors in 2024, a 39.5% increase year-on-year, with 84 per cent of travellers arriving by air.
Australia was among the top 10 countries sending tourists to Vietnam with 490,880 arrivals in 2024.
More expansion for Vietjet to come
In Q1 2025, the low-cost carrier added international services with Japan and China, further expanding Australians’ connectivity with Asia via Vietnam, and onboarded two new aircraft, bringing its total fleet to 106.
However, Vietjet dropped its Adelaide–Ho Chi Minh City service in October last year due to fleet management issues.

In addition, the LCC will launch a new direct Auckland– Ho Chi Minh City route in September 2025. It currently operates 137 routes: 97 international routes and 40 domestic routes.
In the first three months of 2025, it transported more than 6.87 million passengers (up 9% YOY) across nearly 38,700 flights (up 12% YOY).

The Q1 2025 financial statements reported air revenue of VND17.92 trillion (around AUD$1 billion), with a pre-tax profit of VND820 billion (around AUD$48.4 million) – a two per cent YOY increase.
Consolidated revenue totalled VND17.952 trillion (around AUD$1 billion) while pre-tax profit was VND836 billion (around AUD$49.3 million), up 24 per cent YOY.
A Vietjet spokesperson said these achievements position the LCC to exceed its ambitious 2025 targets amid strong global aviation growth.
