The next phases of Adelaide Airport’s $600 million ‘Project Flight‘ infrastructure program will reveal passenger-facing upgrades as the South Australian hub works towards its 2050 aviation vision.
Passengers will see upcoming construction commence with major expansions to the check-in hall and terminal as well as additional aircraft parking positions on the tarmac.
Right now, six new screening lanes are open. By the end of 2025, regulatory upgrades to passenger and checked baggage screening will be completed, including the rollout of body scanners and 3D x-ray bag scanners.

Adelaide Airport will also complete its security screening technology for checked baggage within the terminal’s main baggage handling system by the end of the year.
Other upgrades include a new international departures gate and family facilities, including a new play space and a sensory room for people with hidden disabilities.

There is also enhanced gate seating across the entire terminal such as business hubs and new lounge seating.
ADL terminal expansions

The southern check-in hall in the award-winning airport will expand by more than 1,500sqm, increasing capacity by 25 per cent, and will include upgrading existing equipment with new tech, such as check-in kiosks and more bag-drop facilities.
The northern end of the terminal will also increase its footprint by 10,000sqm by the start of 2026 and will feature new domestic gate lounges and aerobridges to accommodate peak demand.

Meanwhile, the southern end of the terminal will have an additional 5,500sqm, including two new domestic and three regional gates with works starting early 2027.
Expansion by up to nine aircraft parking positions adjacent to the southern and northern ends of the terminal will be delivered progressively over the next three years.

Adelaide Airport experienced record-breaking passenger numbers in FY25, reaching 8.7 million passengers (including more than one million international pax), a 2.3 per cent increase compared to FY24.
Adelaide Airport Managing Director Brenton Cox said: “Our passenger numbers are at record levels and we are planning for that airline connectivity to continue to grow, so we are also continuing to deliver the infrastructure required to accommodate that growth.”
