Brand USA Ambassador Spotlight: Siobhan Smith’s road from camp counsellor to rising star in selling travel to the USA

When Siobhan first applied to join the Brand USA Ambassador Panel, she never imagined her two short but mighty years in the industry would earn her a place among the final 12. What she may lack in tenure, she makes up for in heart. Fuelled by a passion for the USA and a knack for crafting unforgettable itineraries, Siobhan quickly proved that experience isn’t measured just in years - it’s measured in impact.

When Siobhan first applied to join the Brand USA Ambassador Panel, she never imagined her two short but mighty years in the industry would earn her a place among the final 12. What she may lack in tenure, she makes up for in heart. Fuelled by a passion for the USA and a knack for crafting unforgettable itineraries, Siobhan quickly proved that experience isn’t measured just in years – it’s measured in impact.

Her love affair with the USA began under a wide-open sky at a U.S. summer camp in Pennsylvania; where the s’mores were sticky, the friendships fast, and the spirit of adventure was born. It’s that nostalgic, feel-good energy she brings to every booking, every conversation, and every spark of wanderlust in her clients.

Whether swapping stories about quirky roadside stops, championing underrated small towns, or passionately debating the country’s best burger (she has opinions!), Siobhan’s journey proves that inspiration can come from anywhere. In her case, a lifechanging summer camp spark has ignited a lifelong love of travel.

What motivated you to apply to be a Brand USA Ambassador?

“I applied to be a Brand USA Ambassador because, I’m totally obsessed with all things USA! My love for this destination grew even more when I worked at a summer camp two years ago, where I got to meet people from every corner of the country and be immersed in an amazing variety of cultures and landscapes. That eye-opening adventure sparked a passion I now share with clients, peers and loved ones – showcasing the USA’s unique and unforgettable sides.”

What’s the top U.S. destination(s) on your travel wish list?

“Alaska and Florida are at the top of my U.S. travel wish list. I’m drawn to Alaska for its natural beauty, vast landscapes and unique outdoor adventures. I’d love to explore its dramatic glaciers, spot wildlife and maybe even try dog sledding or seeing the Northern Lights. On the other hand, Florida offers a completely different experience with its vibrant cities, stunning beaches, theme parks, Latin American cafes and diverse cultural influences. “

What is something you can only experience in the USA?

“One thing you can only experience in the USA is the blend of diverse cultures and landscapes. From iconic road trips on Route 66, to historic landmarks like Independence Hall and natural wonders like the Grand Canyon, snow-capped mountains, red rock deserts, and palm-lined beaches – all within one country. The USA offers almost every experience imaginable and something for everyone. It’s this contrast – the bold mix of the familiar and the unexpected – that makes the USA truly unlike anywhere else in the world.”

What’s an up and coming or underrated destination in the USA that travellers should add to their list and why?

“When I was placed at Summer Camp in Pennsylvania, it hadn’t been a place on my travel ‘wish list’. After spending the summer there, surrounded by forested lakes, rolling hills, feeling the small-town charm and meeting locals to the state – as well as Americans across the country, I developed a sincere appreciation for it. I was so surprised by how much it gave me. Not just outdoor adventures, but, personal growth, confidence and life-long friends. I’m so grateful to have experienced this side of the USA that I may have otherwise overlooked.”

Travel across the USA is so diverse, what’s your favourite style of travel there?

“My favourite style of travel across the USA is road tripping. It’s the perfect way to experience the landscapes and cultures, from the desert roads of Arizona to the lights of Las Vegas. With a road trip, you can take your time exploring off-the–beaten-path towns, trying local foods and taking in the country’s amazing scenery, making each stop a new adventure.”

What’s one expert selling tip you’ve found essential when promoting travel to the USA?

“Highlight to your client the potential for an incredible range of experiences available in just one trip. Whether it’s combining city adventures with national parks, or mixing food, music and culture across different states, travellers love knowing they can tick off multiple bucket list moments without leaving the country. Tailoring trips to show that variety really gets people excited and makes the USA feel like multiple holidays in one.”

What does your ideal multi-state USA itinerary look like?

“My ideal multi-state USA itinerary would be starting off in New York City for iconic sights and energy, then head to Nashville for live music and Southern vibes. From there, I’d jump into the culture and food of New Orleans, then over to Florida for beaches and theme parks. After that I’d head to Las Vegas for some fun, followed by a stop in Los Angeles to enjoy the West Coast. To top it all off I’d end in Hawai’i relaxing on the beaches, enjoying the beautiful island culture and gorgeous sunsets.”

Which U.S. city has the best food, and what’s your must-try dish?

“New Orleans, Louisiana stands out as one of the top U.S. cities for food. With its blend of Creole, Cajun and French flavours. A must-try dish is Gumbo, a rich and savoury stew made with seafood, meats, and a medley of spices. For an authentic experience you don’t want to miss a classic Creole dish like jambalaya or finish off with a sweet beignet for dessert. New Orleans is a must for seafood lovers like me!”
