Lauren Zanesco, Senior Consultant at itravel Griffith, has been crafting unforgettable travel experiences for clients over the past eight years. Since joining the itravel network in 2022, she has quickly made her mark, earning the coveted itravel Rising Star award last year and securing a nomination for the NTIA’s Most Outstanding Travel Consultant – Leisure.

While Lauren has sent countless clients to the USA, it remains one destination she has yet to experience herself. That is set to change with her selection for the Brand USA inaugural Ambassador Panel – an opportunity that recognises her hard work, dedication, and eagerness to learn. Lauren is excited to gain first-hand insights into the destination she has long championed, bringing a fresh and informed perspective back to her clients and colleagues.

We caught up with Lauren to find out how she became such a passionate ambassador for the USA, despite not experiencing it firsthand.

What motivated you to apply to be a Brand USA Ambassador?

Lauren Zanesco proudly representing as a Brand USA Ambassador.

“The USA has always been one of my favourite destinations to sell. I’d even planned to celebrate my 21st there, but when COVID hit, those plans were put on hold. Instead, I channelled my passion by watching travel creators on YouTube visiting the USA and exploring cities on Google Maps’ Street View. It sounds funny, but I think that’s a big part of why my knowledge of the USA is so strong today.

When the Brand USA Ambassador Panel opportunity came up, I thought why not? The USA has something for everyone: vibrant cities, live music, national parks, incredible food, and unique culture. And I love helping clients discover that variety so I’m very grateful Brand USA values passion as much as experience or tenure and gave me this chance.”

How do you plan to share your USA expertise with your clients and network?

“I’m working with Lexie from Brand USA to organise a training event for travel agencies in Griffith. Being in regional NSW, we don’t often get these opportunities, so it’s rewarding to help my colleagues and other local agents connect directly with Brand USA. My goal is to take everything I’m learning and launch at least one or two training groups in 2026, creating a lasting resource for agents to grow their USA knowledge.”

What’s the top U.S. destination(s) on your travel wish list?

From cowboy culture to iconic BBQ, Texas is top of Lauren Zanesco’s USA must-visit list.

“Texas is at the top of my list, and I’m so excited that it’s part of our Brand USA Ambassador famil. From its rich history and cowboy culture to live music and legendary BBQ, I can’t wait to experience that famous Texan charm first-hand.

Another ultimate dream destination for me is New York. It’s the place you see in movies and TV shows, but I want to discover it for myself by getting lost in the buzz of the streets, finding hidden gems, and tasting everything from their iconic New York pizza slices to their Michelin-star restaurants.”

What’s an up and coming or underrated destination in the USA that travellers should add to their list and why?

Hot air balloons over Sedona’s stunning red rocks — an underrated Arizona gem Lauren recommends.

“Sedona, AZ. It is known for its stunning red rock formations and spiritual energy, it is perfect for travellers who want a mix of outdoor adventure, wellness, and small-town charm. With hiking, vortex sites, art galleries, and stargazing, it’s a peaceful yet invigorating alternative to busier destinations like the Grand Canyon.”

Earlier this year, Brand USA’s Sports Odyssey famil also took in Arizona, showcasing highlights across the state (and neighbouring Nevada) for Aussie travellers.

How do you stay ahead of U.S. travel trends and keep your clients in the loop?

“As a regional travel agent, I find webinars are one of the best ways to stay up to date with the latest trends and information. In-person events can be hard and often expensive for me to attend, so online learning is a great alternative. I’ve been absolutely loving Brand USA’s eight-part Route 66: A Deep Drive series, it’s such a fun way to explore the history and stories along Route 66 as the centenary gets closer.

The USA Discovery Program is also another resource that every travel agent should know about. I have learned so much completing badges in the program, and I still refer to the app if I am booking a destination where I don’t feel as confident. It’s such a handy tool to have at your fingertips, whether you’re just getting started or need a quick refresher and Brand USA often runs incentives on there.”

How do you see this role helping you grow professionally?

Brand USA’s Ambassador Panel at The Great USA Road Trip three-city Aussie roadshow.

“This role is a fantastic opportunity for me to gain valuable knowledge about selling the USA while also building strong connections with my fellow ambassadors and other industry professionals. At the end of July, I was lucky enough to attend Brand USA’s Roadshow event, ‘The Great USA Road Trip – Australia’ on the Gold Coast, where I had the chance to network with 20 destination and product partners. The experience left me feeling inspired, and I’ve already started brainstorming some exciting travel ideas for 2026 – watch this space!

Why do you think the USA is such a special destination for Australian travellers?

Brand USA
The USA’s unique diversity shines in its blend of iconic cities and awe-inspiring natural landscapes.

“The USA appeals to Australians because it packs so much diversity into one country including iconic cities, charming small towns, breathtaking national parks, and unique cultural experiences. Add to that our shared love of road trips, live sports, and shopping, and it’s easy to see why the USA feels like such a natural fit for Aussie travellers. With English as the main language, it’s simple to get around – familiar enough to feel comfortable, yet always full of adventure. And it’s more accessible than many realise since the flight there is shorter than Europe.”

What’s one expert selling tip you’ve found essential when promoting travel to the USA?

“Knowledge is everything. Clients rely on your expertise, so it’s important to stay one step ahead – sometimes even ahead of what they can find online! Whether it’s guiding them through resort fees, showing them how to use the MPC app (an absolute must!), or suggesting the best experiences, your expert insights are what make their trip to the USA seamless, stress-free, and unforgettable. It makes all the difference.”

What does your ideal multi state USA itinerary look like?

“Absolutely a Southern road trip. I’d start in Tennessee with the Johnny Cash Museum, Grand Ole Opry, Graceland, and a tour of the Jack Daniel’s Distillery. Then drive through Mississippi, soaking up the history, before heading to Louisiana. In New Orleans, it’s all about soul food, jazz, and culture. If time allows, I’d continue west into Texas for rodeos, BBQ, and more of that authentic Southern flavour.”
