“Faster and easier”: Jetstar speeds up check-in with new passport app feature

Jetstar travellers heading overseas can now check in with just a quick passport scan, thanks to a new feature on the airline’s mobile app. The update puts Jetstar among only a handful of low-cost carriers in the Asia Pacific offering mobile passport scanning.

Instead of typing in details manually, customers can use their phone’s camera to capture passport information instantly.

The airline says this will not only save time but also cut down on entry errors, particularly for families and groups travelling together.

From today, the feature is available on most international routes, with the exception of services to and from Vietnam and flights departing Fiji, Vanuatu and the Philippines.

“Our new passport scanning makes international check-in faster and easier, so customers can spend less time typing and more time getting excited for their trip,” Jetstar Executive Manager, Customer, Jenn Armor said.

The airline has also streamlined its mobile check-in process. After opening the Jetstar app, passengers can confirm travel declarations, scan their passport when prompted, and then add a boarding pass directly to their phone. Apple Wallet and Google Wallet options are also supported.

But that’s not the only digital upgrade for flyers. From 30 October, customers will be able to reserve an Uber ride directly within the Jetstar app. Uber Reserve allows bookings as little as 30 minutes or as far as 90 days in advance, with upfront pricing and a choice of vehicles.

“Getting to and from the airport is also easier than ever with customers able to access Uber Reserve directly from the Jetstar app – making it a breeze to reserve airport transport in advance,” Armor remarked.

Uber Australia and New Zealand Director of Consumer Operations Mathieu Marie said, “We know that getting to and from the airport can be one of the most stressful parts of any trip”.

“We are excited to partner with Jetstar to integrate Uber Reserve into the Jetstar app, offering travellers more certainty and choice so they can start and end their journey with peace of mind.”

To celebrate, the low-cost carrier is offering $10 off the first Uber Reserve booking made via the app until 30 November.

Riding a wave

Jetstar was the biggest winner in Qantas Group’s recent FY25 financial report. The low-cost carrier’s underlying earnings before tax surged by a whopping 55% to $900 million, marking one of its strongest results ever.

Jetstar carried a record 16 million domestic customers during the year, proving its appeal in a cost-conscious market.

Jetstar is increasing capacity to high-demand destinations across Asia, including Thailand, Japan and South Korea, from late 2025.
