11 regions, 11 ways to fall in love

What’s not to love about a place that has a wide range of outdoor activities, like hiking, snow sports, and adventure thrills, a rich history as one of the 13 original colonies, and scenery that inspires creativity, from fine arts to performing arts and inspired culinary creations.
When you understand the variety, beauty, and awe awaiting your clients in New York State, it’s an easy sell. Here’s a teaser showing how there’s something for every kind of traveller:
- 1. Adirondacks: High peaks and low crowds = easy wows in the Adirondacks. Highlights include the Lake Placid Legacy Sites (host of two winter Olympic games), the spectacular Whiteface Veterans Memorial Drive views, and hiking the High Peaks. Sound like an expert when you recommend the Wild Center’s Wild Walk treetop trail at Tupper Lake.
- 2. Catskills: Cat(ch) skills about the Catskills on the webinar. With retro vibes, classic resorts, and fresh trails, this is how you connect your clients to their carefree side. Highlights include the Kaaterskill Falls hike, the year-round outdoor adventures at Hunter and Windham ski areas, and artsy stops like Woodstock and Phoenicia.
- 3. Hudson Valley: Harvest the Hudson, a destination ripe for the picking with its iconic Culinary Institute of America restaurants, world-class art in nature at Dia Beacon, and the island ruins at Bannerman Castle.
- 4. Finger Lakes: Raise a glass in the Finger Lakes, where waterfalls and wineries impress. Recommend your clients walk the Watkins Glen State Park gorge trail, tour the Seneca and Cayuga Lakes vineyards, and watch live glass blowing at the Corning Museum of Glass.
- 5. Thousand Islands–Seaway: Castles, cruises, and coastal charm await in this picturesque region. Highlights include a boat trip to Boldt Castle, a St Lawrence riverboat cruise, and a guided tour through the secret passages at Singer Castle.

- 6. Chautauqua–Allegheny: Forests, festivals, and family time make for a great vacay, from exploring Allegany, the state’s largest state park to attending a community-focused event at the Chautauqua Institute and catching a show at the Jamestown’s National Comedy Center. For something different, suggest a Ghost Walk at Lily Dale, the world’s largest spiritual community.
- 7. Capital–Saratoga: Tracks, treats, and history on tap make the Capital-Saratoga region worthy of exploration. There are free tours of the New York State Capitol, mineral springs rejuvenation at Saratoga Spa State Park, and time out at Cohoes Falls, one of the state’s largest waterfalls.
- 8. Central New York: Central New York is chock-full of museums, from the fascinating National Baseball Hall of Fame to the Northeast Classic Car Museum and the immersive Herkimer Diamond Mines, where visitors can prospect for quartz crystals.
- 9. Greater Niagara: You can’t mist this off your client’s itinerary: sailing the Maid of the Mist at Niagara Falls! Other highlights include Frank Lloyd Wright’s home in Buffalo, and Lockport’s Erie canal cruise.
- 10. Long Island: Beaches, bays, and Hampton stays await in Long Island. Relax at Jones Beach State Park, immerse in the area’s coastal history at Fire Island National Seashore, and snap selfies at Montauk Lighthouse and the Big Duck statue (it’s a Long Island icon).
- 11. New York City: Besides being home to some of the world’s most famous attractions, the past 12 months has seen a ton of reopenings (including the Frick Collection, The Met’s Rockefeller wing, and Delacorte Theater), and the new (free) Gottesman Pool in Central Park.
