When you’ve been in business for 130 years, you know a thing or two about crafting polar expeditions. It’s that experience that informs HX Expeditions on executing market-leading voyages that have the perfect balance of adventure, sustainability, and premium comfort.

Travelling with the polar experts includes stylish suites, elevated food and beverage options, and comfort without compromise for an intimate, immersive journey to some of the world’s most far-flung destinations.

Purpose-built for adventure

For HX guests, the ship doesn’t just take them there — it enriches the entire expedition.

For advisors, you can confidently promise the comfort of a well-equipped expedition ship and the raw, boots-on-the-ground feel your clients crave.

Why size matters

When it comes to the polar regions size does matter, especially if it is purpose-built.

MS Roald Amundsen and MS Fridtjof Nansen, the two hybrid powered ships in the HX fleet, accommodate up to 480 guests in polar regions, and strike the sweet spot between immersive adventure, sustainable practice, and premium comfort, and here’s why:

  • Drake Passage: The Drake Passage crossing makes up around four days of an Antarctic expedition. Clients want a ship with large stabilisers for the smoothest possible journey—and because it’s four days, they also want to enjoy themselves. HX ships offer plenty to do: unwind in the day spa, sauna or fitness centre; dive into learning in the Science Centre or lecture hall with the onboard and guest scientists; relax in spacious cabins; or dine across three onboard restaurants.
  • Adventure: HX ships are purpose-built to get guests moving, learning, and exploring. Designed and staffed to support multiple activities at once, they enable a well-rounded, fully immersive experience in every destination.

Suite dreams

For clients who like their creature comforts, HX’s Expedition Suites are a clear upsell. Offering more space to relax, and even better views of the world’s most spectacular scenery, HX suites are a thoughtful balance of luxury and exploration.

Think expansive picture windows and private balconies outside, and generous lounge areas, premium bedding, a single-serve coffee machine, ample storage, and even binoculars for wildlife spotting (one less thing to pack!) inside.

Together, these allow guests to experience true immersion in the passing landscapes without leaving their Scandi-style suite.

The thoughtful touches that matter include:

  • Expedited embarkation
  • Welcome champagne
  • Single-serve coffee machines and premium teas
  • A daily restocked minibar and snacks
  • Free laundry

A richer programme

HX has an abundance of experts. From ornithologists to marine biologists and glaciologists, environmentalists and activity guides, your clients can expect more enrichment, more lectures, more science projects, and great choices for daily explorations.

Whether your clients are hiking the tundra, watching wildlife from a Zodiac, or kayaking amid icebergs, HX’s purpose-built ships mean guests get more chances to experience the destination on their own terms.

That’s not all. Thanks to new gear, upgraded itineraries, and smarter operations, HX has the largest and most diverse kayaking and camping programme in Antarctica!

Food with purpose

Dining on HX is as thoughtful as their itineraries. It tells the story of where the ship sails with menus connecting to regional traditions – think Arctic char in Greenland, wild salmon in Alaska – alongside global flavours.

All-inclusive, food with HX does more than nourish; it respects its source and supports sustainability. Chefs source ingredients responsibly, reduce food waste, and work with local producers where possible.

With up to three distinct dining venues, there’s choice, too:

  • The heart of HX dining, Aune serves generous breakfast buffets, casual lunches, and regionally inspired dinners.
  • Lindstrøm offers refined à la carte dining for suite guests (additional cost for others) with attentive service that complements local flavours with the kind of culinary artistry you’d expect in the world’s best restaurants.
  • Fredheim is a relaxed, social space serving international comfort food favourites. It’s a place to recoup after thrilling shore adventures.
  • Brygga is exclusive to MS Spitsbergen. New in 2025, this bistro-style eatery offers extended hours – perfect for mid-morning bites and late-evening snacks.

Lower carbon footprint

MS Roald Amundsen and MS Fridtjof Nansen are designed to tread lightly in the fragile regions HX explores. With sonar-optimised hulls, battery packs, and emissions-reduction technology, these ships minimise their impact on the environment, letting nature thrive. As a delightful bonus, guests can experience Antarctica in near-perfect silence, interrupted only by the crack of ice or the splash of a breaching whale. There are no artificial sounds, just the pure voice of the wild.

HX’s significantly lower carbon footprint per passenger (than typical cruise ships) is why they are recognised among the world’s most sustainable expedition ships.

New for 2026

Never one to rest on their laurels, HX has a raft of new experiences for 2026. Raising the bar, your clients will enjoy:

  • Next-generation Discovery Kayaks are an industry-first. Inflatable yet expedition-grade, they deliver cold-water stability, precise control, and a quieter, more independent way to explore.
  • An evolved Amundsen Night camping experience: this beloved tradition now includes new custom-built bivvy bags from Scandinavia. Field-tested by the expedition team, these are ideal for solo travellers and the truly adventurous.
  • New electric Silent Science Boats to reduce underwater sound pollution. These mark a step towards HX’s phasing out combustion-engine Zodiacs.
  • More dining variety, including greater culinary offerings from local culinary ambassadors, new theme menus, and signature cocktails.
