China Southern Airlines has lifted Melbourne–Guangzhou services to double daily, locking in year-round frequency.
China Southern Airlines now operates two flights a day between Melbourne and Guangzhou, shifting the route to double-daily services across the full calendar year.
Guangzhou remains the carrier’s primary southern China hub, with onward connections across mainland China and links into Hong Kong and Macau via the Pearl River Delta.
A short seasonal spike pushes the schedule higher
Between 4 April and 6 May, China Southern will operate up to 17 flights per week on the Melbourne–Guangzhou route, Melbourne Airport announced.
“We thank China Southern Airlines for its continued investment in Melbourne and look forward to the positive impact this expansion will have on travel and trade,” the airline posted to LinkedIn.
Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays will see three daily departures, lifting peak-period capacity on the route above the new year-round baseline.
The combination of higher frequency and eased entry conditions reshapes how easily Melbourne travellers can reach southern China, whether flying direct or using Guangzhou as a transit point.
Australian passport holders are eligible for visa-free entry to China for stays of up to 30 days, applying to both leisure and business travel.

China Southern has expanded Australian services incrementally in recent years, with multiple network and capacity updates. The airline recently announced it will double direct services to Brisbane Airport with year-round flights, going twice daily between BNE and Guangzhou, China (CAN) from 30 March 2026.
KARRYON UNPACKS: Double-daily Melbourne–Guangzhou flights are now permanent rather than seasonal. A five-week window lifts services to 17 weekly flights, adding extra departure choice on key days.
